Assessment

To provide you with further information on how we assess children at school we have provided the following information as guidelines. Assessment is continuous, regularly and meaningful. It is done in many ways not just 'tests.' For more information about or if you should have any further questions please speak with a member of your class teacher or email admin@corringhamprimary.com who will be happy to direct you to the appropirate staff member.

EYFS

From September 2021 there was a new Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework. Our school uses The Development Matters Guidance to inform our EYFS curriculum. For further information please use the link below. Our EYFS phase leader Miss Clark is presently creating a parent friendly document to help explain how EYFS works. Please contact the school if you would like more information.

Across the year we make many meaningful observations on our pupils capturing the ways in which they learn. We share these wonderful learning opportunities with your through Tapestry. Tapestry is an online learning journal which when your child starts with us you will be provided a log in. In additional to this we create a book to keep many pieces of work safe to share with you at the end of the year.

Development Matters Curriculum Guidance

KS1

In KS1, which is Year 1 and 2 we continue to use many of the EYFS principles to support their learning initially. Where applicable we still use the Tapestry app but our pupils start to use books to record their learning more and more. In Year 1, pupils are assessed on their phonic understanding in the summer term with the National Phonic Screening. Any pupil who does not pass the Phonic Screening first time around, as the opportunity to resist in Year 2. Pupils in Year 2 then have an end of key stage assessment known as SATs.

KS2

In KS2, which is Year 3, 4, 5 and 6, there are two national assessment points. In Year 4, there is a National Multiplication Check which they work towards and is completed in the summer term. Then in Year 6, there is the KS2 SATS which assess the pupil’s knowledge and skills in Reading, Writing, GPS and Maths.
