BackReception - Linda's Party Pets Experience
On Tuesday this week, Reception children were lucky to be able to participate in a Reptile and Spider experience, provided by Linda's Party Pets. They were really excited about meeting the reptiles and spiders, especially when they were allowed to handle some of them. First the children were introduced to different species of snakes and were given the opportunity to hold them. They then met some gecko, as well as stroking the tail of a lizard. The handler explained that if they stroked the tail downwards it felt soft, but when they stroked it in the opposite direction it was spiky. After the lizard the children met the tarantulas. To handle these they had to sit close to the handler and the tarantulas were placed on towels to ensure the children didn't hurt their legs. Some children chose to stroke the tarantulas, whilst the braver ones held the spiders in their hands. Throughout the experience, the handlers talked to the children about the creatures, how to care for them and what they eat. The children were engaged throughout the session, listening carefully to the handler and following her instructions. At the end, the children thought of their own questions.
